Names
When picking a name, make sure you have an original one that people will remember. Things like cute, sugar, pixel, town, and scribble are used too much as parts of names. You should pick something that appeals to YOU, after all, it is your site. So if I was to make another site, I would think of cute or even just random things I like. I like vanilla and puppies, so I might make my site name Nilla-paws. AS long as you're creative, you can pick something.
Layouts and Graphics
Your layout is the very first impression your visitors get, and how
good it is can make a visitor
decide whether or not to x out
or keep looking around, so do a good job on it! DO NOT EVER rush
with your layouts and graphics!! When you sit down for 10 minutes and
make a little layout, people will know that you really didn't put an effort into it.
Visitors want to see layouts with a lot of detail and originality. Therefore, you really have
to work at it. Not everything has to be done in 1 day. I take days at a time to do my layouts, and that's before the coding. As for what to draw, try not to use too much company characters, they're pretty overused as it is and should only come in handy for inspiration. People want to see fresh ideas, so use your imagination, and don't go overboard with too much text. When it comes to colors, don't use really really bright ones, they kind of hurt when you look at them. Go beyond the basic colors your program gives you.
Content, Content, Content!
Your content is about 70% of what will make your visitors happy, so have lots of it and keep it entertaining. Content is a little tricky though, you have to keep your audience in mind. If most of your visitors are kids, then make content for that crowd. If your visitors are of all ages, then have something for everyone. Make sure your pages are neat, and try not to bunch all of your stuff on one page unless they're of the same category. So don't go stuffing your adoptables and your reads in one spot, understand? Make sure your text is easy to read and not too flashy, and check your pages from time to time and try to make updates on all of them. Visitors will get bored looking at the same thing every visit. Also, be unique with your content. You can play around with the word a little, make it a little more interesting. Don't do what every other site does.
